Formed in 2006, Nerelisin (formerly Eliot Bates ve Kaliforniya Saz Arkadaslari - Eliot Bates and the California Instrumental Friends) has been active in Istanbul, performing neglected gems of Turkish, Roman, and other Anatolian musical traditions. They have attracted a diverse following of Turks, travelers, and ex-pats. Their eclectic repertoire includes pieces by Hasret Gültekin, Baris Manço, Cem Karaca, to sanat music to various regional türkü and oyun havasi, drawing inspiration from Erkan Ogur, Selim Sesler, and Bustan Abraham. Nerelisin will be coming to California in the summer of 2007 for a series of concerts and workshops.

In addition to the group director, oud player, and singer Eliot Bates, Nerelisin includes Samuel Atchley on clarinet and Sean Tergis on darbukka. Both have many years of experience performing Middle Eastern musical forms in various groups in Northern California.
